Bury to Clare Challenge 2019

18 mile run or walk, in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care. A route over the gently undulating countryside of West Suffolk, through the villages of Hawstead, Whepstead, Somerton and others, with several churches along the way.

The route will be marked. The challenge is to complete the challenge within 8 hrs. Medals to all finishers. Includes option to complete this as a relay for teams of up to three.

Distance: 18 miles

Suitable for: Anyone.

Medals: All finishers will be awarded a beautiful medal to celebrate their achievement

Event Details

Start time: Walkers start 9 am, Runners 10:30 am

Results details: We use chip (electronic) timing at our events, and also may be manually recording your race number at checkpoints/finish for safety reasons. Please ensure your race number is clearly visible to marshals at all times. We will endeavour to check & publish results within 48 hours of the event finish.

Entry cost: Solo entries - UKA affiliated £22, Unaffiliated £24. Relay team entries £48

Refunds: There will be no refunds for this event

Deferment: Entries cannot be deferred on this event

Transport: Option to leave your car at the finish in Clare and get the coach back to Nowton Park in time for the start. Cost of coach £10 per person (must be booked when you enter).

Postponement: Should it be necessary to postpone the race due to no fault of Positive Steps Fitness and Wellbeing Ltd, we will reschedule the event to another date in the current year or in the following year. Participants will be given the option to transfer to the rescheduled event or to be given a voucher code of an equivalent value for a future event.

Race numbers: To be collected on the day at registration

Cut off: All participants must complete the challenge by 5pm

Refreshments: Drinks & snacks will be provided at checkpoints.

First aid: Emergency number: 07955495016. This should be programmed into your phones. Marshalls will be at the start, checkpoints and on the route, wearing hi-vis jackets so should be recognisable. In the case of an emergency you should if possible make your way to the nearest checkpoint. If this is not possible you call either the emergency number OR 999 if it’s a life-threatening situation. A first aider will provide assistance at the drinks station or on the course in an emergency.

Friends/family: Supporters are very welcome. There are parking, toilet and cafe facilities at start and finish.

Race Rules

The race will be held under UK Athletics rules (permit applied for).

Dogs – England Athletics insurance does NOT allow dogs in events. It is with regret that no dogs will be allowed on this event.

Essential Kit

Road shoes/walking shoes should be fine (unless we have a lot of rain in the week prior!)

No essential kit but based on previous experience bear in mind the sun - so a hat, sun lotion and water should be on your kit list!
