St Nicholas Hospice Care Festive Forest Challenge 2018

The Festive Forest Challenge is held in the Kings Forest, just 4 miles outside Bury St Edmunds, easily accessible from East Anglia, London & the East Midlands. This popular event is now in its sixth year. It is run on good traffic-free tracks.

Distance: Distance options offer something for everyone – 10km, half-marathon or 20 miles

Suitable for: Everyone! Runners, Walkers & Nordic Walkers all welcome.

Medals: A bespoke medal will be awarded to all finishers.

Event Details

Start time: 9am Half-Marathon / 20 miles, 9.15am 10km

Results details: We use chip (electronic) timing at our events, and also may be manually recording your race number at checkpoints/finish for safety reasons. Please ensure your race number is clearly visible to marshals at all times. We will endeavour to check & publish results within 48 hours of the event finish.

Entry cost: Entry Costs UKA affiliated*: 10km £20, Half-Marathon £24, 20 miles £24. Non-UKA affiliated +£2 per entry *UKA affiliated entries must quote UKA URN on entry

Refunds: No refunds will be given on this challenge as all proceeds are for the Hospice

Race numbers: To be collected on the day at registration

Cut off: Everyone to be finished by 3.15pm

Refreshments: Drinks & snacks will be provided.

First aid: First aiders will be present at the start/finish and along the course. If you develop medical problems, please alert the nearest marshal and prompt assistance will be provided

Special info: Festive jumpers are optional, but encouraged! Spot prizes will be awarded.

Friends/family: Supporters are most welcome at our events. The West Stow venue has on-site parking (please bring change), toilets, and a cafe.

SNHC is a local charity supporting people and families in West Suffolk & Thetford who are living with a life-shortening illness

All of their services are provided completely free of charge, so you taking part in this challenge ensures that they can continue to provide vital care to people in the local area

Everyone will complete the first circuit (10km), half-marathoners and 20 milers will then complete a different circuit, after which the 20 milers repeat the second circuit. All courses will be clearly marked

The course is off-road* and traffic free using footpaths and tracks in the forest

*at the end of each lap participants will cross the road back into West Stow Country Park. This is the only road crossing and will be marshalled

The surfaces are generally good and suitable for normal road shoes

The course has not been measured by a UKA approved course measurer, therefore the distances are approximate

Race Rules

Minimum age on race day: 17

No person (except a blind runner’s attendant) may accompany a competitor at any point on the course

All competitors must compete on foot

Dogs: England Athletics insurance does NOT allow dogs in races. It is with regret that no dogs will be allowed on this race

The course is not suitable for wheelchairs

Cut-off times: Finish by 3.15pm, last lap must be started by 1.15pm

Race Numbers: a walker/runner other than yourself must not use your race number. It must not be cut/folder or mutilated in any way and must be fastened securely to the front of your vest or top. Please fill in the information on the reverse side including relevant medical information and contact numbers to aid race staff in the event of an emergency
