"I retired in March last year, and was aware I needed to improve my fitness level. I booked a Nordic walking introductory session through the Suffolk Walking Festival website, which I enjoyed and joined the group to learn how to Nordic walk. Every Monday we met at Needham Lake and with Sara’s instruction and patience we learnt each element of the skills which make up Nordic walking, we thought it would never come together.
Maggie 2019
Once proficient I continued with the health walk in the first instance, which helped me gain confidence in my ability. I progressed on to the one hour walk and then the longer walk on a Monday. I now walk twice a week and I completed the 8.7 mile walk at Walberswick on 5th January, my longest walk with the group so far! I find the groups friendly and look forward to the walks each week.
Since I commenced regular Nordic walking, I am fitter, and under the supervision of my doctor I have been able to reduce my blood pressure and diabetic medication. In 2019 I am looking forward to the Hunstanton walking weekend and the two days on the Norfolk Coastal Path. Last May I did not anticipate that I would be walking as far and regularly as I am."
"I am visually impaired and to my knowledge Kevin had not previously instructed a VI person to Nordic walk before but he took the time and trouble to consult with Angela (a brilliant local sight loss professional and fellow Nordic walker) for valuable guidance and support. This gave me the confidence to give it a try and I'm so glad I did.
Jon P, September 2015
After a few 1 to 1 sessions of instruction from Kevin I was able to gain enough confidence to walk with the main group which is great. Kevin arranges for one of the team to walk with me as a guide to constantly issue friendly verbal instructions throughout the walk and when a little unsure I just use the walking poles as a white cane substitute to navigate the more intricate obstructions.
I will be looking to do some long walks in the very near future and with Kevin and the teams great support have every confidence it will be possible."
